EXIES ACMY HONOURS ITS MENTOR TRIO

BASKETBALL mentors Pam and Ken Mann and Huck Gilbert have been honoured by the club they guided into amalgamation almost 30 years ago.
Exies-Acmy has awarded life membership to the trio for their foundation work, playing and coaching careers and continued support with the club's basketball program.
Gilbert said they were humbled by the recognition.
"It's great to see the work we've done in the first instance carried on and to see how this has grown,''
he said.
Pam Mann, co-founder of Exies ladies' basketball club, and husband Ken, co-founder of Acmy (YMCA spelt backwards), said combining the clubs was a key part of survival.
Exies-Acmy was formed in 1981 with an emphasis on being a family club so parents could watch sons and daughters play and train together.Gilbert was named inaugural president.
All three were players and coaches at the club but Pam said each mostly acted as mentors nowadays.
Pam compiled a club history earlier this year and said it was fascinating to track the achievements of the club. "It makes us extremely proud that it still holds the same family values," Pam said. "We congratulate the executive committee for where the club has reached and the dedication on their behalf."
Kristy Jose, daughter of Exies co-founder Dawn Jose, presented Pam Mann with her life membership while former club secretary Jo Stevens awarded Gilbert.
AFL 100-gamer and former club member Jeff Dunne flew from Tasmania on five hours' notice to present Ken Mann.
